Pere Gifre (Figueres, Spain, 1974) is a San Francisco based artist and engineer, specialized in sculpture projects, sceneographies, interior & industrial design and architecture. His vast knowledge of these different fields allows him to enrich his designs through the implementation of different specialized techniques and processes such as the VFX Engineering, a self-created design that uses computer systems that allow him to transform physical processes of nature into a sculpture (capturing the essence of nature, particularly water), light structures or any kind of project regardless of its scale or difficulty.

Gifre’s works are characterized by the constant search for new design processes and methods of investigation. One example of this would be a unique and innovative sculptural tableware collection for the world’s top restaurants, ElBulli and El Celler de Can Roca. The collection is based on the recreation of processes that we find in nature.

In addition, he is currently collaborating with more than 200 Michelin Restaurants Worldwide becoming one of the most distinguished Michelin Star restaurants Tabletop Designers.

For the last 15 years artist Pere Gifre has specialized in producing water-based sculptures through a process linked to visual effects engineering. His technique transforms the natural movements of water into works imbued with its natural form, allowing the sculptures to remain “alive” despite their metal composition.

The most recent installation by the San Francisco-based artist is an 80-foot waterfall that cascades down the center of the VP Plaza España Hotel in Madrid. The metallic multi-level drip descends from the hotel’s 12th floor glass bottom pool into the atrium below with a dramatic splash. Lighting is projected onto the work, shifting the silver sculpture through several colors throughout the day.

Pere Gifre’s sculptural work is based on the interaction and study of water, its forces, its beauty, its dynamism and its purity. The intrinsic combination of all of these is the key to then transform it into a sculpture.

This obsession for Water started in his childhood. Born right at the natural park of Cap de Creus (Spain), throughout his life, Gifre has always been intrigued in capturing the essence of water in a single instance of time transforming it into a sculpture. For the last 15 years Gifre has specialized in producing water-based sculptures through a process linked to visual effects engineering. This technique transforms the natural movements of water into works imbued with its natural form, allowing the sculptures to remain “alive” despite their metal composition.

“Waterfall” and “Splash”, a 68 feet long structure designed for the International Exhibition Expo Zaragoza 2008, are considered two of the tallest interior sculptures worldwide. Presently, Gifre is developing outdoor / indoor “Water” Sculpture projects which will be finished in 2019 – 2020.

Currently, he is also mediating with some of the most well-known Water Charity Foundations to partnership with them and facilitate the access of purified water to the countries who have strenuous difficulties to access to it. This is his final dream with his sculptures: helping people with his artwork.
